Learning is something that happens not only inside the seminar room, but also in the wider department, university, and Würzburg communities.
American Studies regularly hosts meet-and-greet gatherings, panel discussions, and other events with a US-American focus. In the last semesters, students have had the opportunity dialogue with US Consul General Jennifer D. Gavito, meet US-American educators, and debate on "Race and the Crisis of American Democracy" with experts on the topic as well attend film previews.
Our department also cooperates closely with the Schreibzentrum | Writing Center der JMU. In addition to academic writing courses, the Writing Center offers students opportunities to learn from and interact with professional writers through the Writing Matters / Writer-in-Residence program.
We are proud to support the English Drama Group (EDG) which offers JMU students a stage not only for performing in drama productions once a semester, but also for developing their creative talents, honing key professional skill sets, and, not least, forging friendships.
Student Representation in the Philosophy Faculty (Fachschaft Philosophie) is another important resource for both accessing information about and getting connected to student communities at the JMU.
